a lady’s prerogative

modflowers: Sanderson Hollyhocks teal & ruby fabricUnlike many vintage fabric fans, I have never been enamoured of vintage Sanderson.

Don’t get me wrong, I love what the likes of Dottie Angel and Sarah Moore can do with it – and I am by no means immune to the charms of granny chic in general.

However, those sludgy old Sanderson colours with their musty-smelling aura have never done it for me.

I think it’s because of my Nanna, who was a devil for a muted blowsy floral, but whose tastes were so rammed down my childhood throat that I grew to dislike many of the things she held dear (neck of lamb stew, praying, sunray-pleated skirts and feather beds, to name but a few.)

modflowers: Sanderson Sweet Williams fabricNanna’s bedroom curtains were Sanderson. Or a cheaper looky-likey rip-off thereof.

I hated them. Her room, which was opposite the top of the stairs, scared me; I used to run downstairs without looking back, in case one of the fusty old ghosts that rippled those faded curtains came after me.

But sometimes things change and force a reconsideration…

However, I think these colours are a bit fresher than Nanna’s old curtains.

And after all, it is a lady’s prerogative to change her mind. ♥

  1. Oh Sanderson florals can be so romantic and sentimental, maybe as we age a little, or a lot in my case, our hearts mellow a little?
My mums Sandersons never got washed as far as I recall and I suspect beneath the dust of aons, there probably lay as much deliciousness as these lol
Hope its cotton patchwork weight and not just upholstery and curtaining!
