broken, bashed & beautiful

modflowers: vintage button tinSome things look like they’ve had a hard life.

This tin is one of them.

A seam down the side that, due to a big bash that has left it severely dented, doesn’t quite connect any more.

Patches of rust and missing paint.

Sticky residue from long-gone labels on the bottom.

Once, I imagine, it was presented proudly as a gift, filled with delicious petticoat tails shortbread.

Nowadays, once the contents have been devoured, it would be the end of the story.

But things were different back then.

The tin’s robust construction and beauty saved it from the bin.

modflowers: vintage button tinWho knows what adventures it’s had in it’s lifetime, before finally catching my eye in the charity shop.

It’s still got it’s cargo of buttons from a previous owner.

I wonder whose they were?

modflowers: vintage button tinWell, they’re mine now!

modflowers: vintage button tinI didn’t need it. I have a button tin already.

But I already love it very muchly. ♥

  1. Oh my! What a find! I have the same tin which I also found full of wooden bobbins, buttons and bits. The lid stays on so well and I love the colour and pattern. Its one of my favourite things in the world. May you have it for years to keep you company. X

    • I would love to see a picture of your tin naomi! Is it as bashed as mine? I’m thinking it can’t be if the lid stays on – I had to tip all the buttons out of mine into a plastic bag to bring them home or they would all have ended up swilling about in my handbag!

  2. Oh my… I’m so glad to see I’m not the only one who just ADORES finding treasures like that. Vintage tins certainly have that special energy about them that just makes you want to bring them home and cherish their life (past and present;-)
(And opening them to find out their content is just the best feeling in the world, makes you feel like a child again who just found a treasure). Love the way you write about this one and your pictures!
    xx
