a fantasy fulfilled

modflowers: living room A few years ago, when we started doing up our first house, I used to have a small, slightly embarrassing fantasy.

I used to fantasise about my home being featured in a magazine.

It started when I was pregnant. Some sort of extreme nesting instinct kicking in, perhaps.

In those days I read Living Etc and Elle Deco with a sort of manic ferocity. I hoarded those magazines like someone with a compulsive disorder.

modflowers: some of my magsIt was before Pinterest was invented, so I made mental moodboards galore, and kept folders of notes and catalogues with “nice things” in them. (I never cut up the magazines though).

Eventually, we went through the long – and at times painful – process of doing work on our current home.

I joined Pinterest and pinned nice things on there.

I threw out most of the magazines. Pinterest takes up less room.

I made the house into somewhere that we like and that suits us. (Well, me, mainly. If I’m honest.)

modflowers: living room collageSo I must say, it was most unexpected, and lovely, to be asked if I would like my favourite room to be featured on geoffrey and grace’s blog.

After much tidying up, and a fair bit of disguising the ugly bits (the damp patch caused by leaky guttering being a good example) a very nice post has resulted. Which I’m really happy about, and for which my grateful thanks are given unreservedly.

If you’re the sort – like me – who enjoys a good nose around other people’s houses, you can read the post and see more photos of my living room – modflowers HQ – here.

My latent fantasy has at last been satisfied.

Eat your heart out Elle Deco. ♥

  1. So it’s not just me then…. I had to weed out my interiors mags when I emigrated to Australia; I couldn’t justify paying the extra freight for all those extra boxes. I like your nice white room. And I have yet to dip my toe in the Pinterest pool, although I am reading the ‘idiot’s guide on how to do Pinterest’, since that’s about my level…

    • Oh, you must join pinterest kate! It’s like a constantly changing moodboard of lovely pictures! There’s a link in my sidebar to my boards, have a look once you’re signed up.

  2. I’ve always had fabric envy when reading your blog, now I have house envy too! I’ve also always had a fantasy to have my house feature in a magazine – perhaps one day *sigh*. In the meantime I’ll just keep pinning on Pinterest.

  3. Your house looks gorgeous! All that hoarding of deco mags and pinning has been worth it. I too have a magazine and pinterest habit – we are still waiting to get going on our project..so am forced to live with green carpets. Woe is me. Love seeing the finished product…it gives me hope! Lucy x

    • It’s actually a big help to have all that inspiration and a heap of ideas to hand to help steer you towards the look you want. I’m sure the green carpets will soon be a thing of the past!

  4. Ha! Love this and love, love, love your space (I adore your curtains!) – not at all surprised you’ve been featured 🙂 Your front room and dining room are a very similar layout to ours, in that we have that lovely end to end light as well as the rooms have been knocked through. I used to hoard Living etc too – but I’ve unsubscribed now as it all feels a bit unobtainable and there are so many blogs and Pinterest to take it’s place 🙂 I had my magazine dream come true this month too, as I made it into Mollie Makes – still feels a bit surreal!! And believe me, there was a LOT of tidying that went on first!!

  5. I love the room! It’s stylish/cosy/colourful/retro! How nice to be asked to feature.
Funnily enough, I have always had the same fantasy – and my interiors magazines stash is quite frankly, out of hand!
Thanks for showing us your home x
