re-buttoned

modflowers: silk frockAs you may remember, last weekend I went to a garage sale.

Because I was so excited about it, I wrote about my tinful of treasures.

But I forgot that I’d also brought this frock home with me.

I took it home to try on, as it is a large size and I am not, and I had promised myself that I would not be adding to my already almost-out-of-control alterations pile.

But you know how it is with the best laid plans…

Especially when I noticed that the frock was real silk, and played everso nicely with my jumble-sale cashmere cardi…

modflowers: silk frockIt is a bit big for me, I suppose.

I will no doubt get told off by someone for this. I am always being told by friends that my clothes should be shorter or tighter.

But I like my frocks loose, especially for summer. Roomy is good in my book. It is probably a throwback to childhood, when I was always bought clothes I had to grow into.

Anyway, I am not inclined to alter it, as this would be tricky. So I shall ignore any such comments.

However, there is one thing I have decided to change.

The buttons.

modflowers: ugly button!Whoever thought that those gold-rimmed buttons would look nice on this frock… well, let’s just say that I don’t agree.

So I bought some better buttons…modflowers: black buttonExcuse the dirty nails, I’d been gardening!

The frock requires eleven buttons. Not ten. Not twelve. Eleven.

Whoever heard of a frock with eleven buttons! Have you ever tried to buy eleven buttons? Well, let me tell you, unless you buy them from the sort of place where they count them out for you individually, which is normally expensive, you can’t.

Luckily, the nice lady at Cloud Craft Shop, where I bought these, put me an extra one in a pack of ten – for no extra charge. Now that’s service!

It’s amazing the difference a change of buttons can make to a frock.

All I’ve got to do now is get around to sewing them on.

And then I’ll have a silk frock from a sow’s ear – tee hee! ♥

  1. Sounds as if this particular alteration isn’t too out of control.. I agree that a good button can make all the difference. How many sizes too large is the dress? Could you belt it so that you don’t swim around in it?
