an eye for embroidery

seventies felt broochAs I mentioned the other day, recently I’ve been falling in love with embroidery again.

Other people’s embroidery, that is, via my pinterest board, stitchery witchery. I haven’t actually done any embroidery myself yet. I’ve been too busy sewing cats and mice.

When you start loving something it’s funny how you keep finding it all over the place. Embroidery seems to be having a bit of a moment.

Whilst idly browsing Etsy the other evening I stumbled across someone who certainly knows a trick or two with a needle and thread.

scandi style flower broochApplique Originals was launched with a range of brooches in 2006 and sells beautifully embroidered wares under the Etsy shop name designedbyjane.

I have fallen hopelessly in love with Jane’s scandi styling, retro colour schemes and fancy stitchery.

They are exactly the kind of things that I wish I could have designed myself, were I talented enough.

They remind me of some of the contemporary Scandi-style prints around at the moment, only made in felt, and often in exquisite miniature.

If you’re not a felt brooch fan (and if not why not? What’s wrong with you?) check out her possibly-even-more-lovely felt lion cushions…

And so cute they make me feel warm and fuzzy.
