selvedge smitten

modflowers: selvedge smittenI always save my selvedges. Be they new, or vintage.

I love the typography.

I love the fact that they’re the bit you’re supposed to throw away. The bit you’re not supposed to notice, or use.

modflowers: selvedge smittenmodflowers: selvedge smittenI did use a few of them in my artist trading cards. You can enter my giveaway to win one of them here.

I also love seeing what other people do with theirs (click on each photo to see the source)…

modflowers: selvedge smittenMaybe.

But vintage fabrics don’t always come with selvedges intact. And I don’t buy new fabrics very often.

So I don’t get that many.

modflowers: selvedge smittenIn the meantime, I love the record they represent of all the fabulous fabrics that have passed through my hands.

I may no longer have the fabrics, but I have a lovely bowlful of their skinny little ghosts. ♥

  1. Oh wow, what wonderful ideas! I would never have even considered holding on to the selvedge but you do have a point…they are surprisingly pretty! I’m going to raid my stash and see what I have to start a collection 😉 I think the wall hangings/quilts looks stunning!

  2. Oh I love this! Like you, I don’t buy many new fabrics, so I can’t see myself having enough for a quilt ever, but I shall now aspire to creating a cushion cover out of them 🙂 I love it when a blog makes me see something in a completely new light – thank you!
