getting skirty

skirt fabric

The first steps in my garment-making adventure have been taken!

Last weekend saw me rummaging through the fabric stash, hunting down something suitable for my new project.

Which also involved lots of standing in front of the mirror holding up pieces of fabric and umming and ahhhing.

Eventually I picked this swathe of Daisy Chain fabric, a lovely pattern designed by Pat Albeck in the sixties. It’s blue and green colourway had always seemed a little bit dark for cushions and quilts, but I could easily imagine myself wearing it.

I also threw in the little bit of green stuff I bought from Lu-Lou’s the other day with the vague idea of some kind of “trim”.

Ali (whose lampshades I have previously admired) did a grand job of marshalling the rest of the class in free machine embroidery, whilst simultaneously supervising my skirt-making endeavour. (It’s a long story – my original choice of class didn’t run.)

It was a bit of a wobbly start in other ways… I cut off notches that were not meant to be cut off.

Consequently I have a bit of tailor tacking to do this week. Not a chore I relish, but my own fault.

On the plus side, amongst today’s jobs will be making a couple of embellished pockets.

Just as soon as I’ve tidied up all that fabric I got out… 🙂
