stash stories ♥ day twelve

stash stories12.1So we’re up to day twelve in my series of stash stories. A fabric a day from my stash, with it’s story.

I hope you’ve not been too bored so far, because there’s more to come!

Today’s fabric is a barkcloth beauty, bought years ago on ebay. The sort of stuff that is becoming increasingly rare to find and expensive, as more and more people cotton on (see what I did there?!) to the desirability of vintage fabrics.

This one has a lovely large-scale pattern and minimal fading and as you can see, is in shades of wonderful turquoise blue. My favourite!

stash stories12.2It is, of course, a pair of curtains, like many surviving good-sized bits of barkcloth these days.

It seems we didn’t change our interior decor so often back in the dim and distant past.

Or if we did, we stashed our downgraded curtains away in a cupboard, rather than binning them as many do now.

Which gets me up on my soapbox. We take for granted the abundance of consumer products available these days. We should remember that it hasn’t always been – and may not always be – thus.

modflowers: stash storiesI hate the throwaway attitude of society and try never to waste anything. And I love that what I do is to rehabilitate the forgotten, the unloved and the discarded.

Mind you, discarding is often all modern curtains are fit for after a few years up at the window. Your average curtains of today just aren’t anywhere near the same quality.

If I had a window to fit these, I’d probably hang them, they’re so nice.

Maybe at the next house. ♥

  1. ‘Bored’ no way, I am loving the stash updates. I can’t believe all the hard work that has gone into you doing these ahead of your holiday. It’s so nice to open up my emails in the morning and see bright fabric looking at me. Thanks and looking forward to more.

  2. Oh so gorgeous! You’re right, I’ve got vintage curtains hung in every room now (and spare pairs stashd away, you know, just in case!) and they have all lasted so well. Loving this rummage through your stash! x
