under my numpty nose

modflowers: 1960s cotton dress fabricSometimes I feel a bit of a numpty.

I suppose we all do from time to time.

Sometimes you just don’t see what’s right in front of you, do you?

Yesterday afternoon we went for a walk with my partner, my sister, the kids, some friends and a very lively dog.

A thunderstorm ended our stroll a bit prematurely and we all got a little wet.

Anyway, driving home in a friend’s car, we decided to stop for a closer look at a girly-looking shop we had spotted on the way there. It looked interesting, and the boys were all in the other car, so the way was clear for nicking off.

The aforementioned girly shop was ok, if a little expensive.

But I had spotted somewhere more interesting…

I had known of it for years. I used to live nearby, in fact. It’s a bit of a higgledy-piggledy place. We often pass it, on our way to other, less higgledy-piggledy places. But we had never stopped to investigate.

Until yesterday.

And oh! what fabric treasures lay within!

And none at home either, having maxed out on Christmas, fun, cake, and shoes (about which more later).

So I scrounged a tenner off my sister for the blue stuff below, and, like The Terminator, vowed to be back.

There are some things that, either sensibly or selfishly, even a numpty like me knows are best kept to oneself. 😉 ♥

  1. Oh my giddy aunt, what a place!!!! Ok if you won’t tell me where it is (and I don’t blame you!) at least promise me that when you go back you’ll buy that top fabric…if you don’t want it, then buy it for me and I’ll send you the money!! And thanks for the lesson…never ignore a higgledy-piggledy place, you never know what treasures might be lurking! xx

    • Alas that was a frock Rachel, rather than a fabric, or I’d have had it in a jiffy, money or no money! I almost bought it anyway, but tried it on and it didn’t fit and would’ve taken too much pfaffing with to alter (removal of pockets, addition of darts, downsizing by about 4 sizes!) so I resisted – with difficulty!
When I do go back I’ll let you know x

  2. The blue stuff is lovely! And hurrah for stumbling across that shop!! Talking of shoes, have you seen the Clarks/Orla Kiely collaboration? They are amazing! But perhaps that is where some of your money has gone… 😉
